Join a virtual panel discussion about Ranked Choice Voting, Sacramento’s history of local elections, and opportunities to improve Sacramento’s elections process.

Panelists include:

  • Ismar Volic, Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Institute for Mathematics and Democracy at Wellesley College
  • Deb Otis, Director of Research for Fair Vote
  • Josh Rosa, Adjunct Professor at Sacramento State and volunteer with Better Ballot Sacramento
  • Paula Lee, President of the League of Women Voters of Sacramento County (moderator)

The panel’s topics include:

  • What should we expect from an election method? What are its goals?
  • How does Ranked Choice Voting compare with other popular methods, like Plurality and Plurality with Runoff (Sacramento’s current method)?
  • Where is Ranked Choice Voting currently used? What have been the results?
  • How has Sacramento’s current method (Plurality with Runoff) been performing? How could Ranked Choice Voting improve upon these outcomes?

This event is organized by Better Ballot Sacramento, a coalition of community organizations committed to improving Sacramento’s local nonpartisan elections process.
